Surah Al Falaq whose first words are “Qul auzu bi rabbin Falak” is the second-to-last one in the Quran; it is called Surah Falaq With only 5 verses, it is one of the shortest surahs in the Quran and therefore one of the easiest to memorize and recite. The Holy Prophet (s.a.w.) has said that whoever recites the first four verses of surah al-Baqarah, accompanied by the ‘ayatul kursi’together with the last three verses of this surah -
9. Surah Falaq. Importance: Surah Falaq is the 113th Surah of Quran and it is a supplication that is directed towards seeking refuge in Allah Almighty from all the evils, black magic and from the effects of jealousy. This Surah can effectively be utilized pertaining to warding off any such effects if a Muslim is facing it in his or her daily life.
The Maksud of Surah Al- Falaq is teaching The Prophet (PBUH) and Muslims how to seek refuge in Allah and ask Him for protection against all types of evil; either humans, animals, Jinn or anything. The Surah discusses the potential evils one could be faced during life and is considered a means of protection against all of them.
Brief Commentary (Surah al-Falaq) • “ I seek protection ”: Istiʿādhah (seeking protection) is an act of the heart. When seeking protection with Allah, we are: (1) throwing ourselves in front of Him, displaying our need of Him, and (2) submitting and humbling ourselves in front of Him.
Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (a.s.) said that in the prayer of Shafa’a (in Salaatul-layl) one should recite Surah al-Falaq in the first rak’aat and an-Naas in the second. Surah an-Naas (The Man) This Surah was revealed in Madinah and it has 6 ayaat. Surah an-Naas and al-Falaq are together called Ma’udhatayn.
